Why the Quality of Your Children’s Clothing Matters

why the quality of clothing is importantWhen it comes to shopping for children’s clothing, there is a huge variation of quality. You can buy cheap stuff at Walmart that falls apart or spend your money on quality products that actually fit handle a bit of abuse. Here’s why the quality of your kids’ clothing is important.

1. Comfort is extremely important for kids

It’s no secret that the highest quality clothing is also the most comfortable. Why is that? Because you’re going to pay your hard-earned money for something, it better be enjoyable for you (or your kids to wear).

Plus, children have very little tolerance for discomfort. They haven’t built the patience to ignore a scratchy cuff or a tight cut. They may not be able to verbalize what’s bothering them, but that little annoyance could make them cranky for the rest of the day.

2. Quality clothing lasts longer

This one isn’t a surprise. If it’s made better, you will have to repair or replace it less often. But is this really a concern with kids who quickly outgrow even their newest clothing?

Absolutely! Have you ever seen how much a little kid moves around? Sit on the couch for fifteen minutes and watch how often they make a lap of the room, climb on something, or make a trip to their bedroom. All that movement puts a lot of wear on their clothes and shoes.

Now only that, but they kneel and crawl in the dirt, climb on trees and swing sets, absentmindedly get their clothes caught on random things, and fall down a lot. Children’s clothing can take quite a beating.

Even though they grow quickly, if you dress them in cheap, bargain price stuff, they’ll wear through it quickly and you’ll end up spending more.

3. You want that clothing to last for the next child

In most families, the clothing of older kids is passed down to younger children. Before two years old, kids can only wear their clothes for a couple months (less, often) before they don’t fit. So those good items get boxed up, stored in an antic, and pulled out when the next child comes along – whether that’s a sibling or a family/friend’s child.

If you buy quality-made items, those same garments can last two or three kids. I’ve seen families pass basic items like pants and shirts down through four kids because they bought right and took care of the items.

What do you think? Do you prefer to buy quality?
