8 Timesavers for Busy Moms

timesavers for busy momsThere’s never enough time in the day, is there? I know I constantly find myself at the end of the day, but I still have a list of things to do. We can’t make more time, but we can find better ways to use the time we have. Here are some timesavers for moms that might help.

1. Wake up a few minutes earlier – It’s amazing how much we can get done with 30 minutes of uninterrupted time. You could probably get yourself ready for the day, have breakfast on the table, or get a few things done for work at this time. No, I’m not suggesting you sleep less. But if you’re like a lot of moms, you toil around for a couple hours after the kids go to sleep. Instead of watching another episode of whatever’s on Netflix, hit the hay a half hour earlier.

2. Prepare meals in advance – Slow cookers are the best because you just dump everything inside, turn it on, and take out dinner later. You can even prepare the meal on a day with more free time (like Sunday for many of us), store it in one bag, and drop the contents in one morning.

3. Rotisserie chicken for dinner – Have you ever seen those precooked rotisserie chickens at the supermarket? They smell delicious, right? Stores sell these at cost or even below cost to entice people to come into the store. If you compare them to a raw chicken, you’ll see that they are cheaper. They make a fast and simple meal.

4. Pack an out-and-about bag – You can save yourself a lot of hassle by keeping a bag in every car you own so you don’t get caught unprepared. Keep some extra clothes for the kids, some toys to distract them, some snacks that don’t spoil, a few bottles of water, and basic safety items.

5. Get ready the night before – This is a lifesaver that every parent should be doing. There’s no sense running around the house trying to put everything in order before you get out the door in the morning. Everyone should leave their school and work items by the door, packed and ready to go, the night before.

6. Do your shopping once per week – Instead of popping into the store every day because you decided you need something, sit down once per week and make a list of all the meals you’ll make that week. Get everything you need in one trip.

7. Learn when to say “no” – Sometimes the best way you can save time is by committing to do less. You don’t have to be a supermom who volunteers at every event or chaperones every field trip. You don’t have to accept every voluntary work project to get ahead. Sometimes you can improve your (and your family’s net happiness) by letting someone else worry about things.

8. Assign chores to your kids – I know exactly what you’re thinking: “But my kids take forever to do some things.” That’s definitely true, especially in the beginning. This might cost you more time at first, but eventually they will get better at doing the things you ask and you won’t have to worry about these tasks at all.

How do you get things done faster?
