6 Back to School Organization Tips

Back to School Organization TipsCan you believe it’s schools season already? If your kids haven’t returned to school, they will be soon. This is a taxing time for many families who have become accustomed to the lazy summer lifestyle. Here are some tips to get your family organized for the year.

1. Build a launch pad

A launch pad is a spot in your house that everyone launches from in the morning. This space is usually near your door. This is where you keep your hats, coats, shoes, backpacks, brief cases, instruments, sports bags, and anything you need for the day. At the end of each day, it’s everyone’s responsibility to put their things together at the launch pad so it’s all ready for the next morning. There should be no running around the house looking for shoes or homework.

2. Make the older kids help

There’s no sense sitting around starring at your phone when there are things to do! Older kids can help get younger kids ready, make and serve breakfast, and load the car. If a couple older kids each take two jobs, that’s a lot of work off your plate in the morning.

3. Prepare breakfasts for on-the-go

Don’t expect to make a full course breakfast every morning. That kind of stuff you see in the movies just doesn’t happen. Instead, precook some items that can be warmed up quickly, like dressed-up yogurt, premade breakfast sandwiches, muffins, etc. Here’s a great list to try.

4. Create a homework station

The number open reason kids get poor grades on their homework is because they 1) didn’t do it, or 2) didn’t turn it in. At young ages, homework is pretty easy, it just has be done. Creating a homework station puts a dedicated spot in your home that’s absent of distractions like electronics, toys and other people.

5. Set up lunch money envelopes

Instead of rummaging around your purse in the morning for money to give your kids (and inevitably giving them a $20 bill, which you’ll never see again), use small envelopes and pre-fill lunch money for weeks at a time. If your kids have an odd lunch price, like $2.20, you can give them exactly what they need. Each morning, toss each kid an envelope.

6. Use a daily reminder board

A daily reminder board is simple: it’s a place you look every day for any reminders you left yourself. The best place to put this is the back of your exit door so you see it right before leaving. Add notes about appointments, projects, special meetings, tests, quizzes, or anything that’s worth remembering.

How does your family stay organized when it’s time to go back to school?
